The Science and Mathematics Advancement and Reform Utilizing Technology and Enhanced Resources (SMARTER) project is a technology training workshop using TI-84 calculators, probes, sensors, and Logger software to enhance the skills of science, mathematics and technology teachers in grades 7-12. Participants will be provided with the equipment for their classrooms.

The Project SMARTER workshop was held July 13-24, 2009 at the North American Coal's Red Hills Mine in Ackerman, MS. The workshop was led by Dr. Karen McNeal, Assistant Professor, Mississippi State University's Department of Geosciences and Ms. Rebecca Buell, Environmental Manager, Red Hills Mine. The five schools selected to participate were Fifth Street Jr. High, West Point in Clay County, East Webster High School in Webster County, Caledonia High School in Lowndes County, Nanih Waiya Attendance Center in Winston County, and Alcorn Central Middle School in Alcorn County.
