S-Stem Fellows: Scholarships to Attract and Retain Tomorrow's Scientists, Mathematicians and Engineers.
The S-STEM Fellows program makes financial aid available to qualified students majoring in the fields of Biological Sciences, Chemistry, Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics and Physics.
Scholarships will be awarded each year to encourage students to pursue degrees in Biological Sciences, Chemistry, Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics and Physics.
Applying for an S-STEM Scholarship
Eligibility1
- Applicants must enroll in a degree program in Biological Sciences, Chemistry, Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics or Physics at Mississippi State University.
- Applicants must demonstrate financial need.
- For undergraduates, financial need is defined by the U.S. Department of Education as the Cost of Attendance (COA) minus the Estimated Family Contribution (EFC). See the U.S. Department of Education guidelines for more information.
- For graduates, financial need is defined as eligibility for Graduate Assistance in Areas of National Need (GAANN).
- Applicants must be in good academic standing and have a strong academic record.
- Applicants must be United States citizens, nationals, or aliens admitted as refugees at the time of application.
The Selection Process
- Complete an S-STEM Application preceding the semester for which you are applying.
- Provide an official academic transcript indicating credit hours and courses completed, courses in progress and cumulative GPA.
- Provide two letters of recommendation from current academic faculty, administrators, or teachers.
- Provide an essay no greater than two pages addressing interest in chosen field of study.
- Provide a personal resume addressing school and community activities and employment history within the last four years.
Professional Development2
Activities may include:
- Participation in research projects.
- Presentation of research activities at regional or national meetings.
- Attendance at seminars on related topics presented by faculty, industry, and S-STEM Fellows.
- Individual academic support by an S-STEM Faculty Mentor.
- Assistance with job placement or identifying graduate study opportunities.
S-STEM Fellows
1 All applicants meeting stated eligibility requirements are considered for S-STEM Fellows regardless of race, color, religion, national origin, sex, age, disability, or veteran status. Applications from under-represented populations are strongly encouraged.
2 By accepting this award, the S-STEM Fellow agrees to participate in all professional development activities as directed by Program Mentors. Failure to participate in activities will result in review by S-STEM officials and may result in forfeit of eligibility for additional financial support through the program.
